Plantar Fasciitis
Common Conditions - Running - Plantar Fasciitis
Ahhh if you are looking under this heading then your life has probably been miserable
for awhile because most people think plantar fasciitis will resolve by itself.  Unfortunately
this is often not the case, but it becomes more chronic until you finally break and start to
search out care.

The good news is that 95% of patients respond to conservative care.

Predisposing factors:

  • Flat feet
  • Faulty biomechanics
  • Short & tight gastrocnemeus/soleus muscles
  • High arches
  • Rigid feet
  • Increased
  • Family tendency
  • "Toe Running"
  • Hills
  • Very soft surfaces (sand)
  • Improper footwear
  • Rapid change in activity level
  • Weight gain

Adjusting any foot subluxations
(especially navicular and the first MTP joint)
and strengthening the foot-support musculature
is necessary.  Myofascial release couple with
ultrasound is often helpful.
